Meet Jonas Salzgeber, an articulate writer helping people live with more confidence, calm, and enthusiasm. I've spent hours reading his articles and his new book, The Little Book of Stoicism.

In this interview, Jonas Salzgeber shares his Stoic inspired life philosophy, habits and routines.

Jonas Salzgeber

Jonas Salzgeber is an author and writes for a small army of remarkable people at NJlifehacks. On his quest to be the best he can be, he stumbled upon Stoicism – and got hooked. At the core of this actionable philosophy lies the goal of staying calm and effective even (especially) in the face of adversity.

He's passionate about self-made dark chocolate and buttered coffee with collagen.

What Are the Most Influential Habits in Your Life?

As I'm most effective in the morning hours, my morning routine is crucial.

I drink a glass of water, do some yoga movements and stretchings, 10 pushups, a short sitting meditation (5-10 minutes), and write in my journal the tasks for the day – the things I want to do and how I want to behave in the world.

How Do You Manage Time?

Currently, I'm not measuring exactly where my time goes. I don't spend much time on social media and generally, try not to spend time on things of little importance to me. Either I work, read, eat, or go outside.

I used to write down an accomplishment list of the day. I'd write down the task and the time spent on that task. And also the breaks and leisure activities.

What's Your Work Process and Thinking Behind It?

Prioritize & Plan: Which tasks do I want/need to get done? Which are the most important and urgent? Where do I start? How much time will it take and when do I need/want to finish?

How Do You Train Your Body and Mind?

Mind: Practicing Stoicism. Reading. Mindfulness training through meditation and practicing Stoicism.

Body: 20-30-minute full-body workout 1-3 times a week. Movement throughout the day, not too much sedentary time.

How Do You Meet and Connect with People?

Meet them in person (friends & family).

Connect via email and calls (influencers & work colleagues).

What Are Your Sleeping Rituals?

Go to bed early, wake up early. Because I'm most productive before lunch.

In order to get high-quality sleep, I wear orange-tinted glasses 1-3 hours before bed, cut out screen-time, do some stretching exercises, sleep in total darkness, and in a cool bedroom.

What Are Your Investing Habits?

Minimalism. I live a simple lifestyle and don't spend much money on things I don't need.

I invest our money in books, business coaching, and personal experiences.

What's One Question That Helped You Understand the World Better?

It's not a question, but a quote by Viktor Frankl:

What is to give light, must endure burning.

When life got tough, this helped me persevere and fight through. I believe we're all struggling, and many of us have depressive moments. It's to find meaning in these moments that helps us get through.

What Books, People, Experiences Shaped Your Thinking?
